A Pineville man is accused of negotiating to buy a boat but then taking the boat without permission.

L.C. Carrington Jr., 48, of 89 Westbrook St., Pineville, faces a charge of unauthorized use of a movable, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began on Dec. 7 when deputies were called to Stephens Street in Boyce in reference to theft of a boat. The complainant alleged that Carrington, her former tenant, took the boat without paying for it.

Detectives from the Boyce substation learned Carrington and the victim had reached an agreement to purchase the boat, authorities said, but then the boat and Carrington went missing.

“The complainant stated she did not give him permission to take the boat off the property, and she has not received any money from him for the purchase of the boat,” a sheriff’s news release said.

Carrington was arrested Jan. 15 on charges unrelated to the boat theft, and detectives determined Carrington did take the boat from the property, officials said. He was arrested on the unauthorized use charge on Jan. 21.

The boat has not yet been located.
