Landlord accuses former tenant of copper theft

Two individuals are in prison blamed for taking copper from a home on the city’s southwest side.

“The house is a wreck,” property proprietor Daniel Morales said. “I found them running out the back of the house. They were pushing copper wiring in their knapsacks.”


As per police reports, Oklahoma City police captured James Stanley, 50, and Keith Fernandez, 26.

They were captured after Morales went to his home in the 2100 square of SW 26th Street to do some repair chip away at the home and perceived suspicious movement.

“Both men were taken into guardianship without occurrence,” Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said. “Luckily our officers saw them and instantly set them apprehended. On them, they discovered different copper wires.”

A third man, Robert Shykes, was addressed however not captured.

One of them told police he was the driving force behind the burglaries, adding that he used to be his inhabitant until Morales ousted him for affirmed medication utilization.

KOCO 5 followed Shykes down.

“I didn’t do anything incorrectly,” he said. “The copper that he says I stole was the string that I keep in my wallet. I utilize it to sew with when I tear my coveralls at work. There’s a sewing needle and a genuine fine copper wire. That is the thing that he says I stole from his home. Better believe it right.”

Shykes said he’s currently searching for another spot to live while his previous landowner cleans up the chaos abandoned by the copper criminals.

Stanley and Fernandez both stay bolted up at the Oklahoma County Jail confronting charges identified with robbery of copper.
