A house owner residing in Survey Park has been booked under the attempt to murder case for allegedly beating up a woman tenant and smashing her head. The 50-year-old victim, identified as Pratima Banerjee, has several stitches on her head. The police, though, have not yet arrested the accused – Uma Bagchi (42).
“A probe in the case has been ordered,” said DC (south suburban) Santosh Pandey.
According to the police, the two families – the owner of the house at B-block in Survey Park and their tenant – have been involved in a legal battle for eviction for the past several years. “The two families regularly take up fights with each other. On Monday night, though, things crossed limits and Uma hit Pratima on her head. Pratima collapsed immediately and was later taken to a nursing home. We have taken down the statement of the victim and a case has been registered,” said a senior investigating officer.
