19-year-old Salaudeen Rilwan, is currently languishing in the police cell with a murder rap on his neck after he was arrested for stabbing his close friend, Kareem Suraju, to death after a scuffle over a plasma TV belonging to Suraju’s friend which Rilwan wanted to steal.
According to Tribune Newspaper, Rilwan who is being held at the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Iyaganku, Ibadan in the Oyo State Police Command, is now full of regrets and is begging for another chance to make good his life.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a police report, said:
“The suspect had gone to the residence of one Olayiwola Femi at Oke Oloro, Omi Adio area of Ibadan at about 12 noon on Friday, January 30, 2015.
On getting there, he did not meet Femi but saw Suraju, who happened to be Femi’s friend as well as his landlord’s son.
Suraju was reported to have stayed back at home because he was not feeling well, and his closeness with his father’s tenant made him to be in his room after Femi had gone to work.
After Rilwan heard that Femi was not around, he started disconnecting the television and DVD player in his room.
But Suraju tried to stop Rilwan from taking the household items away.
Suraju’s actions infuriated Rilwan and in the struggle that ensued, Rilwan picked up a bottle, smashed it on the wall and stabbed the victim several times.”
He then went ahead to steal the items he was after and left Suraju in the pool of his blood.
It was Femi’s return later that night that exposed the calamity when he opened his door and met the lifeless body of Suraju and raised the alarm.
He was traced and later arrested and he allegedly confessed to the crime.
