Two men burst into a Western Highway apartment Tuesday morning, punched the male tenant in the head and demanded “stuff” as the female tenant escaped, Orangetown police said.

One suspect carried a handgun during the 2 a.m. home invasion, police said.

The female tenant locked herself in the bathroom and climbing onto the porch roof, police said. She jumped to the ground, went to a nearby location and called police.

“The suspects left the apartment when they realized the female victim had escaped,” Orangetown Detective Lt. James Brown said in a news release.

The robbers did not take anything and no one was injured.

The suspects were described as a white and black male, who carried the gun, Brown said.

Brown didn’t return telephone calls seeking further information, including whether police believe the robbers were targeting one of the apartment occupants.
