A 25-year-old man was arrested after leading deputies on a chase through Big Bear Lake, sheriff’s officials say.

The incident began about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, with a disturbance at Big Bear Resort Management along Big Bear Boulevard.

“Michael Gillespie became agitated when he was asked to move out of a rental property,” San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokeswoman Tiffany Swantek said in a written statement.

Arriving deputies spotted Gillespie speeding away in a red Nissan Pathfinder, prompting a pursuit into the busy Snow Summit ski resort parking lot, where the chase was suspended because of the danger to pedestrians.

A sheriff’s helicopter crew later spotted the Pathfinder driving erratically along Highway 330 in Running Springs, according to the statement.

“Deputies successfully (deployed a) spike strip,” Swantek wrote, “near the ranger station on Highway 330, puncturing three tires on the vehicle and causing it to stop.”
