A tense situation unfolded in south Sacramento on Sunday morning after SWAT team members were called after a landlord was attacked and his tenant refused to leave the home.
Police were still at the home just after 4 p.m. as firefighters finished blowing out remnants of gas they used to finally get the reportedly hostile resident out.
The incident began at 10:30 a.m. at a home on 4939 Toronto Way. The 80-year-old homeowner says he went to the home and began mowing the lawn when the tenant allegedly doused him with a pan of boiling water and cut him with a knife. He was able to get away and call police.
Police went to the home, and hours after the woman refused to leave, SWAT officers used gas to force the woman out of the home.
Thirty-seven-year-old Latisha Santos was arrested on charges of elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and an outstanding warrant.
“The house owner came over and she smacked him,” said Sgt. Paul Freeman, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson. “We tried to create dialogue, but when that failed, we used gas to get her out.”
Santos was taken to the hospital for observation and will be booked into the county jail.
The owner was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.
