A special team of the city police achieved breakthrough in the murder of an aged woman here by arresting a 25-year-old woman who was a tenant in the victim’s house.
The team recovered a stolen gold chain weighing five sovereigns on the information given by the accused R. Divya Priya.
The victim, T. Muthurathinavathi (80), was murdered on Monday in her house situated at Butterworth Road and gold chain, gold bangles, and ear studs worn by her were stolen. The aged woman was alone in her house when she was murdered and the crime came to light when her daughter S. Nalayini returned home after attending a wedding in the city.
On a complaint from Nalayini, the Fort Crime police registered a case of murder and took up investigation. A special police team was constituted to nab the accused.
A police release here said during the course of enquiry the special team quizzed Divya Priya who was tenant on the upstairs portion of the house along with her parents.
